MBTA Construction Advisory for April - May, 2014
Upcoming Construction Work in Concord
April-May 2014

As the MBTA and its Contractor on the Fitchburg Main Line Improvement project proceed with improvements to the commuter rail line from Boston to Fitchburg we will be performing track and signal upgrades throughout Concord MA as well as replacing several more grade crossings and repairing or replacing several bridges including the Rt 62 Bridge in 2015.

Weekend shutdowns of Commuter Rail Service will begin again on April 26th 2014 and continue through November 23rd of this year.

The following work In Concord is scheduled for upcoming weekends:

April 26 & 27 – The grade crossing at Baker Street will be replaced by MBCR.  Baker St. will be closed from approximately 1am on Saturday Morning and remain closed until Monday Morning at approximately 5AM.  This work will be conducted though the night as needed and will be disruptive to neighbors for this weekend.  Local detours will be in effect and coordinated through Concord PD.

Also this weekend April 25 & 26 JF White will be removing existing switches between the tracks just west of Cottage Lane.  This work will be a 24/7 operation with light towers, generators and heavy equipment.  Neighbors on Cottage Lane, Main St., Belknap St., and Elsinore St. will be impacted by this work.  This work will begin at approximately 1am Saturday morning and will continue through Sunday night as needed to complete construction.

May 3 & 4 - The grade crossing at Belknap Street will be replaced by MBCR.  Belnap St. will be closed from approximately 1am on Saturday morning and remain closed until Monday Morning at approximately 5AM.  This work will be conducted though the night as needed and will be disruptive to neighbors for this weekend.  Local detours will be in effect and coordinated through Concord PD

May 10 & 11 - The grade crossing at Sudbury Street will be replaced by MBCR.  Sudbury St. will be closed from approximately 1am on Saturday morning and remain closed until Monday Morning at approximately 5AM.  This work will be conducted though the night as needed and will be disruptive to neighbors for this weekend.  Local detours will be in effect and coordinated through Concord PD.



Also beginning on the weekend of May 10 & 11 JF White will be constructing supportive excavation on weekends at the Assabett River Bridge between baker Ave and West Concord Station. This work is scheduled to last 5 weeks.

We apologize for any inconvenience this work and associated detours may cause.  It is critical that these major construction efforts be undertaken over weekends when the track is taken out of service. These are once in a generation even once in a lifetime improvements essential to the rehabilitation of the Fitchburg Line.  Customers can look forward to significant service improvements when this improvement project is completed.
