Information on Street Light Removal Project
As you may be aware, the Town of Concord is in the process of removing street lights in an effort to reduce the lighting portion of the Town budget.  Street lighting is funded by the tax payers through the general fund. The plan calls for a 43% budget reduction in overall street lighting. No individual street or area will be singled out but, rather, there will be a reduction of lights across the entire town. The intent is to lower the budget from $85,000 per year to a maximum of $50,000.  When the street light reduction project is complete there will only be lights at intersections, sharp curves in roadway, and in the business districts.
The Town is currently exploring street lighting options for individual lights to be privately funded that would otherwise be removed. If a program is developed, adopted and authorized, it would potentially allow citizens to cover the cost of a light that does not meet the criteria mentioned above. As more information becomes available on potential street lighting programs, it will be posted on the Town’s website.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Light Department at (978) 318-3101.
