The Concord Fire Department announces Open Burning will be allowed starting Tuesday, January 15, 2008 and ending on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Burning is allowed from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM if fire safety and atmospheric conditions allow. Residents wishing to burn must complete an Open Burning Permit at Fire Headquarters, 209 Walden Street, Concord, and have the permit with them when burning.
There is no fee for the Open Burning Permit. To activate the Permit, residents can call the Concord Fire Department Open Burning Permit Line at 978-318-3454 between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM daily to determine if burning is allowed and activate their permit for burning on that specific day.
Open Burning is controlled by the Department of Environmental Management and cannot take place on days where the air is still and smoke poses a nuisance or health risk. Open Burning will not be allowed during periods of low humidity, high temperatures and high winds. Permit holders should plan their burning to take advantage of weather and fire conditions by burning as early during the season as possible.
Open Burning is designed for property owners to dispose of brush, forestry debris, and tree prunings. Burning of grass, hay, leaves, tree stumps, or land clearing operations are not allowed under the Open Burning Permit. Burning must take place be at least 75 feet from dwellings and fires should be under control at all times, with a garden hose and shovel handy.
