Westford Road & Fitchburg Tpk. Culvert Replacement Project
(3/10/14)
Westford Rd. and Fitchburg Tpk. Culvert Replacement Project – CPW’s Engineering Division has resumed preparing the design and bid documents for the infrastructure improvements project.  As reported in previous reports, this project involves replacing two antiquated and undersized culverts.  The majority of the cost, in excess of $100,000, will be funded by FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.  The grant program is designed to subsidize qualifying projects that minimize future obligations as a result of damages sustained by future disasters.  CPW’s Engineering Division was successful in obtaining grant funding for these culverts under two separate grant applications.  The Town’s contribution as required by the grant will be 25% of the project cost and is anticipated to be funded through capital funds as well as Chapter 90 State aid.  A complete cost estimate will be evaluated once the project is fully designed.  Work is scheduled to begin in the low flow season, Fall 2014 and completed in Spring of 2015.
