CPW completed design, permitting and the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) application for the culvert replacement project in November 2010 to meet the original FEMA deadline. CPW was informed that FEMA had extended the application deadline to March of 2011 and also delayed the HMGP grant award decisions to the Fall of 2011. This will not allow CPW to reconstruct the culvert within the 2011 low flow season as required by the Natural Resource Commission’s Order of Conditions.
CPW had a structural engineer assess the culvert condition to evaluate the possibility of reopening the road on an interim basis until the HMGP grant application results are made available. The culvert has been given a sufficient rating to reopen on a temporary basis.
CPW completed temporary embankment repairs and repaving the first week of May, 2011 and the roadway has reopened. The road will be closed in July of 2012 at the beginning of low flow season to begin the culvert replacement.
