Contractors:
Lazaro Paving: General Contractor
Fenton & Sons: Subcontractor - Water and Sewer Utilities.

Project Manager:
Hardik Raval, Engineer, Water/Sewer Division 978-318-3250, hraval@concordma.gov

Project Overview:
Concord Public Works will begin roads improvements in the neighborhood of Hubbard, Union, Fielding and Willow Streets, beginning September 12, 2011.  The construction sequence consists of a two phase process.  The first phase includes replacing antiquated sewer and undersized water mains.  The second phase will be the reconstruction of the roadway surface to improve roadway drainage and overall drivability.  The majority of the work will be completed through mid-November, with final “top course” paving and loam & seeding scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2012.

The water main work will involve the replacement of an existing 6-inch cast iron pipe with 8-inch ductile iron pipe, and replacement of the water services from the main to each house’s property line; in the streets of Union, Fielding and a section of Belknap.  The sewer main work involves replacement of an existing 6-inch clay pipe with an 8-inch PVC sewer pipe and replacement of sewer services from the main to each house’s property line; in Hubbard, Willow, Fielding and Union Streets.

Purpose of the project
The purpose of the project is to replace antiquated and undersized infrastructure.  Replacing the 6-inch water main with 8-inch water main will improve water quality and fire flows. Replacing the old undersized sewer main will reduce number of sewer surcharges by reducing stormwater inflow and groundwater infiltration into the sewer system.

Construction Impacts
Work Day:  Work will be limited to Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, between the hours of 7:00AM and 5:00 PM, on weekdays.

Traffic: Impacts are expected only within the immediate neighborhood of the project. Vehicles may have difficulties accessing the roads during work hours, 7:00AM to 5:00PM.  The roads will be restored or plated each night to allow full access to all vehicles when work is not in progress.  Please note that mail trucks, and emergency vehicles will always be allowed access.

Water/Sewer Service:  Residents along Hubbard, Union, Fielding and Willow Streets can expect an occasional interruption in service, for a short duration.   Specific notice will be provided at least 24 hrs. in advance of any scheduled interruption.
