 What a weekend!

The Concord Agriculture Committee and The Umbrella Musketaquid Arts & Environment program invite community artists to capture one or more seasons of Concord farm life as part of a year-long project, “Art and Agriculture: Four Seasons on Concord Farms,” running from Spring 2015 through Winter 2016.

The project aims to promote connections between Concord farms and their neighbors, to encourage community members to explore their artistic and creative talents using farms and farm life as their subjects, and to exhibit the artists’ work in local gallery spaces.

 arming has long been a feature of Concord life and prosperity, and the town is fortunate to have a vibrant agricultural sector today. Many of Concord’s 20 farms and farm businesses will host artists participating in the “Art and Agriculture” project.

Artists are encouraged to choose one season or more, and to work in the medium of their choice—from photography to watercolor to sculpture, poetry, and music. In addition, artists may submit one piece of their work about or based on a participating Concord farm during their chosen season for an exhibition at a local gallery or restaurant shortly after the season’s end. Two entries will be selected from each seasonal exhibit to appear in a final year-end exhibition of “Four Seasons on Concord Farms” in Fall 2016.

Participation is limited to 50 artists per season, with registrations accepted on a first-come first-served basis. A $35 per-season participation fee covers project costs. The deadline to register for the Summer season is Friday, June 12. Depending on capacity, later registrations may be accepted.

This Committee consists of five residents of the Town appointed by the Board of Selectmen each for staggered five-year terms.  The membership shall be as follows:

Three members representing farmer interest who are engaged in farming;
Two citizens at-large interested in promoting farming

The purpose of the Committee is to provide a forum for the discussion of interest and concern to farmers in Concord and to advise the Board of Selectmen concerning how the town can help to support farming in Concord.
