Litter happens. Whether it is a coffee cup blown out of the back of a pickup truck, a soda can thrown from a passing car, a cigarette pack dropped in the forest, lunch bags left beside the river, or a plastic bag carried by a raccoon helping himself to the contents of a bag of trash. Once left forgotten along the roadside litter tends to stay there until someone takes the initiative to pick it up. Keeping Concord clean is not easy job. There are no town employees dedicated to cleaning up litter. Some residents pick up litter on their own, taking responsibility for monitoring
neighborhoods they frequent, and these gestures help keep Concord beautiful. The town sponsors two programs to help keep Concord clean, Spring litter clean up and year round litter cleanup. Join us in helping to keep Concord beautiful.
Spring Cleanup
Every spring the Natural Resources Division sponsors a litter clean-up campaign. Individuals and groups commit to cleaning up particular street before Patriot's Day throughout Concord during the first week in April using special yellow bags. Bags are set out and collected at no charge. For information contact Natural Resources at 978-318-3285.
Year Round Cleanup
Individuals and groups may take responsibility year round for picking up litter in particular neighborhoods, community centers, or conservation lands using the same yellow bags which will be collected at curbside at no charge. To sign-up to maintain a particular area contact the Natural Resources Division at 978-318-3285 or Concord Public Works at 978-318-3240.
