Concord Public Works has completed water and sewer improvements in Hubbard, Union, Fielding, Willow and part of Belknap Streets. The construction sequence consisted of a two phase process. The first phase included replacing antiquated sewer and undersized water mains. The second phase was the reconstruction of the roadway surface to improve roadway drainage and overall drivability. The majority of the work was completed through mid-November 2011. Final “top course” paving and loam & seeding is scheduled to be completed by summer of 2012.

The water main work involved replacement of 6-inch cast iron pipe with 8-inch ductile iron pipe, and replacement of the water services from the main to each house’s property line; in the streets of Union, Fielding and a section of Belknap. The sewer main involved replacement of 6-inch clay pipe with an 8-inch PVC sewer pipe and replacement of sewer services from the main to each house’s property line; in Hubbard, Willow, Fielding and Union Streets.
Purpose of the project
The purpose of the project was to replace antiquated and undersized infrastructure. Replacing the 6-inch water main with 8-inch water main improves water quality and fire flows. Replacing the old undersized sewer main reduces number of sewer surcharges by reducing stormwater inflow and groundwater infiltration into the sewer system.
